| Inside of our site | Besides the All-American Soap Box Derby rules (which can be viewed at www.aasbd.org ), the following "local" rules help govern the North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby race:
ADDITIONAL NEW RULES GOVERNING OUR LOCAL RACE ARE CURRENTLY UNDER CONSIDERATION FOR 2008 1. All participants must wear the official 2008 North Central Soap Box Derby t-shirt (unaltered), approved footwear and helmet. 2. The driver is responsible for and may be disciplined for personal conduct as well as the personal conduct of people in the driver's party, including but not limited to sponsor, pit crew, family members, etc. 3. The authorized race-day committee may disqualify, exclude, or eject a driver, or any members of his/her family for any of the following: A. Vulgarity, verbal or physical abuse and/or unsportsmanlike actions toward officials, spectators, or other participants; B. Pit crew or members of the driver's party non-compliance with regulations; C. Unwillingness to abide by an official's decision; D. Use of chemicals or loose powder in any form on any part of the driver's body or clothing is prohibited; E. Any attempt to gain unfair advantage or concealment of any illegal materials or parts in the racer; F. If the racer does not stay in proper racing position throughout his/her heat. 4. Racer will be paged by the "Pit Boss" only two times. You must get into line for the scale with your racing opponent immediately. Failure to report when called can result in disqualification. Driver must remain with the car from final page until heat is completed. 5. All four wheels will be exchanged after the first phase of each heat. 6. Cars and drivers will be weighed prior to each official heat. No loose weights will be permitted. 7. Each racer will be permitted only one crew member beyond the scales. 8. No alteration of weights are permitted after the official weigh-in prior to each heat. 9. Racers must ride in the cab of the trucks when returning to topside. Not on the trailer or in the back of the truck. 10. The official's tent at the bottom of the hill is off limits to everyone except officials of the North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby. 11. No form of communication will be allowed at the North Central Soap Box Derby between drivers and their support staff (i.e. walkie talkies, two-way radios, cell phones). 12. There will be a 30-minute repair time limit (Additional time possible, depending on severity of damage and at discretion of derby director). 13. If you hit a hay bale down the "sides" of the track or the timer system on either phase of the heat, you will automatically lose that heat. 14. Remember... if you win the race you have signed an agreement at inspection to represent the North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby in Akron for the All-American Soap Box Derby. 15. Decisions of the rule committee and/or derby director are final. 16. Racers and their family are responsible for any repair costs to the timer system if they run into it, to any wheels of their opponent they may damage during the race as well as any parts or equipment that occur during an accident. 17. The winning cars will have their king pins dropped at the end of the race. Any unauthorized materials or components found in or around the kingpin will be grounds for immediate disqualification. 18. The North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby will impound the winning cars after the completion of the race. 19. No open fires (i.e. gas grills, charcoal grills) are permitted in the pits. 20. All racers should have a new brake pad installed on their racer prior to inspection. 21. Racers are to stay in their lane, even in the braking area. Crossing over and hitting your opponent in the braking area will result in the loss of the heat. 22. No headware (i.e. doo- rags, nylons) are permitted to be worn under the racing helmet. |
